Dave is a Rotary Member and PE (2019-20) from West Seattle where he lives with his wife Bridget and their tabby cat. He retired from the US Army in 1995, followed by four years as a disaster director for the American Red Cross. Following that Dave worked for eight years as a disaster manager for Public Health Seattle & King County, retiring in April, 2018.
He is a Shelter Box Response Team Member (volunteer) with the International Aid Organization Shelter Box. In March 2013 he traveled to Cornwall, England to complete the nine-day training to become part of a two-person team responsible for deploying themselves and Shelter Boxes into disaster zones.
Since then he has deployed for Shelter Box to Oklahoma, the Philippines, Serbia, Malaysia, Paraguay, Haiti and most recently to Madagascar.
He authors two blogs, one on volunteer management and one on disaster preparedness.
